This morning I went to Dr. Leygett’s office in New Britain to pick up some medical supplies he offered to donate to the orphanage in Haiti. I will be bringing the supplies with me when I go in September… Thank you!
This evening I had my first dance lesson at Arthur Murray’s dance studio! I will be dancing for the MADD “Dancing with the Stars” event that will be held in October at Mohegan Sun. My dance partner is Ikar and he is teaching me the tango and rumba! He is very talented and so much fun! I have never really done any ballroom dancing before, so it is very new to me! I can’t wait for my next lesson to begin our choreography for our dances!

This evening I did a meet and greet at Lone Oaks Campground in East Canaan, CT. I have camped there since I was a little girl, so it was great to be back. I couldn’t believe the line of kids waiting for an autograph! Afterwards I sang a song in the talent show and called all of the kids on stage to join me. What a great night!

Logan's Send- Off

This evening was Logan’s send-off for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen! It was held at Testa’s banquet hall in Southington. Logan looked so beautiful in all of her wardrobe and I know she is going to do so well at nationals!! I can’t wait to be there to cheer her on!

Miracle Treat Day and Natalie's Kids on Campus Program
I began my day today bright and early, meeting Scott Organek and some of the Plainville Dairy Queen crew at the CBS affiliate in Rocky Hill at 6am. We were able to promote Miracle Treat Day on the air with Scot Haney! Today a portion of blizzard sales from Dairy Queen go to support the Connecticut Children’s hospital in Hartford!
This afternoon I spent with Natalie Testa, one of our great Miss Connecticut sponsors, in Waterbury at Naugatuck Valley Community College. For the past few years Natalie has been a part of the Kids on Campus program teaching a class on fashion. Some of Natalie's students did not even know how to thread a needle before the class began, and now they were designing and creating beautiful pieces of clothing (and without a sewing machine!). I was able to bond with the girls throughout the afternoon while they shared with me their dresses that they had been working to create all week. They were beautiful! After lunch, I showed the girls how to be confident while walking on stage to prepare for their fashion show tomorrow. I also had a chance to listen to the kids from “Making the Band” perform a few songs and I sang a couple songs for them after as well. We all had so much fun!
Thursday August 5, 2010I ended the day meeting Scott Organek and Ashley Membrino at the Dairy Queen in Plainville to support the children’s hospital. This site had a lot of activities for kids to do including a petting zoo, face painting, a DJ, a blow up bounce house, and raffles. We awarded this Dairy Queen for raising the most money last year.
Definitely an eventful day!

Cruise Night for American Legacy Fund

This evening I went to cruise night in Bolton, CT to benefit the American Legion Legacy Fund. The fund was established to pay college education costs for children who lost a parent in the war effort. I was able to meet many war veterans and others who were there to show off their cars and support the cause. I sang the national anthem and went in the dunk tank too!

Miss Maine Invitational weekend
This weekend was the annual Miss Maine Invitational that Valerie Clemens hosted at her Pennsylvania home. The excitement began on Thursday evening when I met Miss New Hampshire, Krystal Muccioli, at Lisa Little’s house so that we could all drive together. We arrived at Valerie’s mansion around 12:30am.

We began our day Friday at Schoppy’s trophy shop where we all shopped for Miss America items!
Our next visit was at the Miss America Office. We were given a tour where we learned a lot about the history of Miss America. It was very nice to meet the Miss America national staff members as well!
We then went to Atlantic City to visit Convention Hall, where the Miss America Pageant was held for many years. We also went to the beach and walked on the boardwalk to take pictures and sign autographs!
Our last stop was the White House Sub Shop, a famous sub shop in Atlantic City. We brought our dinner home and ate it while watching a CPTV special on Miss America. It was so neat to watch the film and see the past Miss Americas on the stage where we stood today!

This morning we went to Melmark, a facility that provides educational, recreational, and residency for the physically and mentally disabled. We put on a show for them in the morning, had lunch and signed autographs in the afternoon, and celebrated with a pool party to end our stay. A man that worked there came up to me after and wished me the best of luck with everything in the future and he told me I should really consider a career working with the disabled. That really meant a lot because it made me feel I had made somewhat of a difference while I was there for such a short period of time; but really they made my day.. I had so much fun!
In the evening we had mock interviews and a press conference at Valerie’s home. We also each performed our talents. This was great preparation for Miss America! Everyone gathered for a wonderful dinner to end the night.

This morning we went to Sweet and Sassy, a small store where little girls go to get beauty makeovers, to host a Day of Confidence for a select group of Special Olympic Athletes. We each spoke on the importance of inner beauty and how to show confidence while public speaking, being a leader, and on the importance of being poised. Then the athletes were able to get their hair done by the Sweet and Sassy staff, take pictures, and try on our crowns. I guarantee everybody left there feeling positive and confident!
This weekend went by so fast! I feel so lucky to have had this amazing opportunity!

WILI morning show/ Danbury Westerners Game

This morning Logan and I had an interview on the WILI morning show with Wayne Norman in Willimantic. We had a lot of on-air time to talk about the pageant, our platforms, the Miss Connecticut Organization, and ourselves. It was a great morning!
This evening I went to the Danbury Westerners baseball game. I sang the national anthem, singed autographs and baseballs, and watched the entire game!
