So the girls didn’t finish braiding my hair until about 3 am! It took about 6 hours to do all of my hair… I now look like a real Haitian! Haha Isabelle and her two friends did a great job!
This morning we played with the children I gave out many more toys
that we brought- play dough, jump ropes, toy instruments, crayons and paper, arts &crafts, puzzles…We also gave out Red Sox hats to them!
I played cards and football with them for quite a while too. John helped the guys work on the orphanage’s truck. They cleaned the intake system, replaced the filter, fixed the air conditioning system, did an oil change, put on a new belt, fixed the power steering, put on a new tire and cleaned out the engine bay and all hoses.
This afternoon we wanted to do something extra special for a few of the children we have gotten very close to. The kids aren’t usually ever able to leave the orphanage. We took Darlene, Malanata, Clifford, and Gaye Paye with us as we checked into the hotel. When we told them we were taking them with us, their faces lit up with the biggest smile. When we got out of the car the kids hurried to grab all of our bags. That is one thing about the children here- they will take care of you and do everything for you no matter what. They always jump to help or protect you.
We took the kids swimming for a long time- they had so much fun!! Gaye Paye kept jumping into the pool over and over again. We played pool games and swam around for a couple of hours. Then we treated them to ice cream- It really seemed as if we had given them a million dollars!!
we got back to the orphanage the children all bombarded us asking if they could come tomorrow to go swimming at the hotel. I really wish we could take them all. Tonight we helped
put together a big hot dog party for all of the kids! They all gathered into one room as we got everybody yelling and singing and excited for the celebration! There was candy thrown out, toys, marshmallows, hot dogs, juice, and popcorn! They all had a blast!
For some reason, though Darlene and Malanata seemed so sad- Darlene did not eat her hot dog and they kept to themselves quietly in the corner. Finally we got out of them what was wrong. They were crying because they thought we were going to go back to the hotel after the party and not come back. We explained to them we will be back tomorrow and they felt much better. Sunday will be a very hard day though when we actually do have to leave. I love them so much :(
